Korean-Produced Family Musical “Numberblocks” Makes Global Stage Debut in Singapore
The family musical Numberblocks successfully completed six performances from the 7th to the 8th at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre in Singapore.
Based on the globally popular animated series of the same name aired by the UK’s BBC, Numberblocks brings to life a unique universe where numbers are personified as characters, reimagined through stage art. Daekyo secured the domestic business rights and officially presented the musical through joint planning and production with performance production company Brush Theatre.
Numberblocks is recognized as an educational performance that naturally helps children understand numerical concepts and mathematical principles while enjoying the show, effectively combining play and learning. In addition to its educational message, the production’s high-quality stage direction makes it an enjoyable experience not only for children but also for parents, making it a true family musical.
Marina Bay Sands Theatre, with approximately 2,400 seats, is one of Singapore’s premier performance venues, regularly hosting a wide range of global productions. This performance marks a notable case of a Korean-produced family musical being staged at a major overseas theater, demonstrating the global expansion potential of Numberblocks.
In Korea, Numberblocks also received strong audience support during its premiere last year, ranking first in monthly ticket sales in the children and family performance category on major ticketing platforms. Riding on this success, the encore performances are currently underway. The show will continue at Ticketlink 1975 Theatre through March 2, followed by a nationwide tour.
A Daekyo representative stated, “Building on its domestic success, this Singapore performance is especially meaningful as a starting point for expanding onto the global stage. We will continue to present performance content that combines education and culture both in Korea and abroad.”
Meanwhile, Daekyo is expanding its global IP-based content business, including Numberblocks. Recently, the company has also introduced the family musical Alphablocks, based on the English phonics animation, continuing the momentum of success in its performance content lineup.
