World Youth Culture Foundation Hosts Exhibition for the 2026 Daekyo International Sculpture Symposium
The World Youth Culture Foundation announced on the 20th that it is holding an exhibition featuring works from the 2026 Daekyo International Sculpture Symposium at Ara Art Center in Insa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, through Monday, the 24th.
The Daekyo International Sculpture Symposium is one of the Daekyo Group’s flagship cultural and artistic sponsorship initiatives. Launched in 2000 by Kang Young-joong, honorary chairman and founder of the Daekyo Group, the program aims to discover promising emerging artists in sculpture and three-dimensional art and support their creative endeavors. The symposium is now in its 27th year.
This year’s symposium was held under the theme “Spaces Where Memories Flow.” A total of 24 participants took part, including 12 selected artists and 12 assistant artists chosen from 14 universities in Korea and abroad. From July 24 to August 11, the artists created sculptures at Chungnam National University’s Daedeok Campus, using a variety of materials, including marble, acrylic, and industrial materials.
This year, the symposium expanded its support for young artists beyond its existing scholarships for outstanding participating artists and the Friendship Award for assistant artists who collaborated in producing the works. The Korea Sculptors Association also joined the initiative for the first time by providing additional scholarship support.
Through this expanded collaboration, the symposium has evolved beyond simply offering opportunities to create and exhibit artworks. It has become a platform for cooperation with the broader sculpture community to support young artists’ continued creative activities and professional growth.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge, welcoming anyone interested in sculpture and three-dimensional art. Moving forward, the World Youth Culture Foundation plans to expand its partnerships with cultural and artistic organizations to strengthen the support system for emerging artists, from talent discovery and artistic creation to exhibition opportunities.
A representative from the World Youth Culture Foundation said, “This year, the Korea Sculptors Association joined us in our commitment to supporting young artists, allowing us to further expand the mission of the Daekyo International Sculpture Symposium to nurture emerging talent. We will continue to build partnerships with various cultural and artistic organizations to create an environment where talented young artists can sustain their creative practices and grow into the next generation of leaders in the art world.”
